How to Install a Bathtub Guide 1:
HOW TO INSTALL A BATHTUB
Bathtub installing is not as easy as it may seem due to the fact that is associated with technical plumbing and construction skills and also heavy lifting. Before getting down to start the job of installing a bathtub it is advisable that you ensure you have all the tools that are needed, this include; a propane torch, soldering supplies, tube cutter, drill, drywall hacksaw, galvanized nails and screws, level, strap of wood, bathtub, safety glasses, P- trap, PVC drain pipe, overflow pipe, hammer, copper supply pipe, tape measure and plastic shims. After gathering all this, frame the walls in the installment area such that after installing the bathtub into will leave a 1/8 inch gap around the edge of the alcove. Then move on to install rough in plumbing supply lines for the faucet, risers and shower head. Next slide the tub into place and check whether it is uniformly leveled by the aid of the level, in case it is not use plastic shims to level it because if wooden shims are used they usually tend to rot as time goes by. After leveling it and ensuring that it is now leveled mark the top of the tubs nailing’s flange on the studs. After this determine the position of the ledger boards and they should be in such a way that they attach directly to the wall studs i.e. the ones found directly underneath the lip of the tub so that they can give it extra support. Now assemble the drainage and the overflow pipes and then dry fit them to the tub so that you can be ale to measure the length required to attach the p trap to the drain pipe, after doing this cut them so that they get to fit and attach them to the tub. Now it is the time to install the ledger boards on the markings that had previously been determined, This is to be done by the use of galvanized nails or screws. It is also important to note that the galvanized nails and screws are to be used so that rusting is avoided. Now put the tub into finally, this is to be done in such a way that the tub gets to settle on the ledger and also that the drain pipe that originates from the tub slides into the P-trap. Now it is the time to fasten the tub by the use of galvanized nails or screws through the flanges, install the drain plug assembly through the opening at the overflow and then attach the overflow cover plate. At this point in time you can now turn on the water and go ahead to check for any system leaks in case it occurs that there are leaks fix them but if the system is okay finalize the whole activity by having the showerhead tub spout and faucet handles installed. There after call for the inspection of the bath tub from an inspection officer so that it is satisfied for use.
HOW TO INSTALL A BATHTUB Guide 2:
- You want to start out by installing all of the piping before you install the tub itself.
- Lower the tub down into place so that the continuous flange fits firmly against the wall studs and rests on a set of supports. Attach the tub to the enclosure with nails/screws placed through the flanges INTO the studs.
- Place the drain connections together by connection the tub overflow with the tub drain above the trap (Be sure that this does not go beyond the trap) The trap should have a compression fitting that screws over the arm of the over flow piece.
- Cold and Hot water lines run to the shower/tub mix valve where they are attached. Typically by sweating these directly into the hot and cold ports of the mixing valve.
- Run a pipe up or through the wall for your shower head. Atop this pipe, sweat a brass female threaded winged fitting into the framing support. (make sure this is nailed or screwed)
- Extend a half inch pipe for the tub spout. Sweat a male threaded fitting to the end of this pipe or use a brass nipple (Must be the proper length) and a half inch cap.
- Turn the water pressure back on and check your drain connection/supply pipes for any leaking.
- You must install a moisture resistant dryfall as a base for the wall covering. Seal joints between your wall and the new bathtub.
- Finally, install the shower head and handles.
